Rembrandt's painting The Banner Bearer is touring the Netherlands

Rembrandt's Banner Bearer is open to the public from today. The masterpiece, which was purchased last year for 175 million euros, can be viewed in the Fries Museum. After that, the work goes on tour; it will be seen in all provinces in the near future.

The piece was purchased with money from the Dutch State and the Rembrandt Association and the Rijksmuseum Fund. The Rijksmuseum now wants to give as many interested parties as possible the opportunity to view the work. The canvas will therefore move from museum to museum in the near future. Each of the twelve museums offers at least one day free admission, after which it will be permanently displayed in Amsterdam.
