Johannes Vermeer
Johannes Vermeer
Johannes Vermeer (1632-1675) is one of the most famous Dutch artists of the Golden Age. Vermeer had a preference for timeless scenes that are distinguished by his subtle use of color and the ideal composition with beautiful light. Vermeer painted very meticulously and was therefore only able to produce two or three paintings per year. 34 to 37 paintings are attributed to him; there is no consensus on three. Furthermore, it is believed that some of his work has been lost. His best known works are; Girl with a Pearl Earring, Vermeer's Street and The Milkmaid. He painted a view of Delft and the Street in his birthplace Delft.
